Local heritage and gourmet food
A region rich in heritage
La Ferme du Cayla is located in the south west of France, in the Department of Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées region and is the perfect holiday base to discover our local area. A real first class tourist destination, this region offers many rich and diverse places to visit:
10 minutes by car is the town of Figeac (www.ville-figeac.fr), situated at the crossroads of several local areas where you can see its exceptional heritage – you will almost certainly appreciate a walk round the Saturday morning market.
One hour to the North you will find the sites of Rocamadour de Padirac and the Dordogne Valley (www.vallee-dordogne-rocamadour.com) that will charm you with its heritage and excellent cuisine. Depending on the time of year you will be privy to unforgettable memories formed at our local celebrations and festivals or take in a guided tour to fully appreciate all that this area has to offer.
30 minutes to the East, in a natural and well-preserved environment on the road to Compostelle, you will find the medieval village of Conques(www.tourisme-conques.fr) which welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year on the route from le-Puy-en-Velay to Santiago de Compostela. Do you feel like taking part and walking a bit of the route during your stay at La Ferme du Cayla?
One hour to the West you will discover the Lot and Célé Valleys, passing through Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, awarded the title of most beautiful village in France in 2012 (www.saint-cirqlapopie.com). Why not continue on to the Cahors wine route and take part in a tasting of the famous Malbec grape, or visit the cave of Pech Merle, a fantastic underground experience.
Christophe and his fully bilingual French-English team will happily arrange an itinerary of excursions and visits or simply offer some ideas for a family day out. Of course you might simply wish to stay on site and enjoy the activities on offer at La Ferme du Cayla – and why not, that’s what we are here for!See all parents activities
Local gourmet food
You will be spending this French holiday in a region rich with local food and wine. Meal times will offer the opportunity to taste freshly prepared French gourmet food, made from locally sourced products and including fruit and vegetables from the garden at La Ferme du Cayla.
There are several other gourmet activities that you can take part in during your stay, such as evening meals from the traditional oven, barbecues for all the guest families and sampling the tasty treats that your children have made during cooking activities.
Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook and eat together as a family.Learn more about the cottages
When you fancy a drink you have access to the wine cellar, where you can choose from the many bottles of red, white and rosé, as well as fine champagne as an aperitif or to accompany your meal. The main vineyards of France are all represented in our wine cellar and in particular those from local Cahors wines. During the high season, we organize once a week a wine tasting session with a local producer who will share with his passion for wine.
All day long, our “Honesty Bar” is at your disposal to find the best hot or cool beverage.See other activities for parents
